Martha E. Hierro, MD
Dr. Hierro is considered one of the few female gastroenterologists in Santa Monica. Her reputation has attracted a large male and female patient following. In 1987, she completed the MD/MPH program at the UCLA School of Medicine. She went on to receive additional training at the UCLA Gastroenterology Fellowship Program.
As a graduate of the UCLA School of Medicine and School of Public Health, Dr. Hierro is committed to educating underserved communities and reducing healthcare disparities. During Colon Cancer Awareness month in March 2002, she was featured on a telecast for the National Alliance of Hispanic Health. Dr. Hierro is an active member of the Medical Executive Committee and a former member of the Bioethics Committee at St. John’s Health Center.
In 2004, Dr. Hierro was elected treasurer of St. John’s Health Center. She holds additional memberships in the American Gastroenterology Association, American Medical Association, the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the American College of Physicians.
Dr. Hierro has been elected as one of the Best Doctors in America in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2011. This is an honor bestowed upon her by her peers in the field of Gastroenterology. Dr. Hierro has been featured in “LA Magazine” as one of the top Specialists in Southern California.
Dr. Hierro has been married to her husband for more than 25 years, who is also a Pediatric Gastroenterologist and Clinical Professor at UCLA. As a devoted mother of two, Dr. Hierro successfully manages the rigors of private practice and motherhood. She has proven to be a paragon of excellence for working mothers. Outside of patient care, Dr. Hierro enjoys volunteering at her children’s school and educating the public on colon cancer and digestive disorders at various healthcare seminars.
