Richard F. Corlin, MD, FACP
Dr. Corlin earned his MD from Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia, PA. As a medical student, he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. After graduating from the medical school, he stayed in Philadelphia to complete his Internal Medicine internship and residency at Hahnemann Hospital. His accomplishments following his academic years earned him the distinction of Post-Graduate Scholar by the American College of Physicians. Having earned his board certification in Internal Medicine, he served two years in the Heart Disease and Stroke Control Program for the United States Public Health Service. Following his position at the U.S. Public Health Service, he attended UCLA’s Gastroenterology Fellowship Program, and completed his gastroenterology training in 1972.
Dr. Corlin made valuable contributions while training at UCLA. He established the school’s first Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit, and became its director. In 1975, Dr. Richard Corlin, along with Dr. Kun and Dr. Rimer, founded Southern California Medical Gastroenterology Group, Inc. where he has been practicing medicine in Santa Monica ever since.
In 1991, he was selected to serve a four-year term on the Advisory Committee to the Director of the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Corlin’s longstanding commitment to healthcare resulted in his selection as President of the American Medical Association in 2001. He continues to reinforce his advocacy for medical education and awareness by publishing monthly articles in publications such as the Culver City News and Blue Pacific News. When he finds time away from patient care and healthcare advocacy, Dr. Corlin enjoys vacations with his family and restoring Ford Model T cars with his sons. In addition to practicing medicine, Dr. Corlin devotes a substantial amount of his energy and efforts to healthcare reform by helping to establish health policies and medical practice guidelines. In 1979, the Governor of California appointed him to serve on the Board of Medical Quality Assurance, one of his most prestigious positions.
